GTAHA Development Plan


GTAHA Development Days

 The GTAHA board is excited to introduce GTAHA Development Days which will be held roughly on a monthly basis. The goal of these GTAHA Development Days is to pick one day per month and to provide GTAHA sponsored clinics throughout the day which will be focused on improving players’ basic skills to enable them to become better, more complete hockey players. All costs for these clinics, including the ice time, will be covered by GTAHA from player registration fees as well as the proceeds from September’s “Tip Your Waiter” spaghetti dinner.

Forwards and Defensemen

 For forwards and defensemen, the focus of these clinics will be on skating. This will include skating mechanics, quickness, and agility. To facilitate the process of improving these areas of skating, we have enlisted the help of one of the best and most respected “Power Skating” instructors in the Detroit area, Kim Muir. Kim has a proven track record of helping hockey players improve their skating ability to allow them to move to the next level of competition. One of her sayings is “If you can’t skate, you can’t play”. Nothing could be more true about the game of hockey. Goalies

 We haven’t forgotten about the goalies. Doug Teskey is a former Toledo Storm goalie and current goalie coach of the Jr. ‘A’ Toledo Cherokee. Doug will be providing instruction to all GTAHA goalies. Anyone who has worked with Doug in the past knows that he provides instruction for goalies which is on par with anyone around. The fact that he is local to the Toledo area also means that he will be able to provide more follow-up to our goalies to make sure that the good habits that our goalies learn at these clinics are not forgotten between sessions. To ensure that this follow-up happens, part of your GTAHA fees will go toward bringing Doug out to individual team practices between these GTAHA Development Days. Overall, we believe Doug Teskey will provide GTAHA with the most comprehensive goalie development program in the area.
